The performance of Gayatri Japa serves as a preliminary rite for self purification, bestows on individuals Atma Shakti and protects them from the malefic effects of sins and expiation. Gayatri mantra is supercharged with power and has been prescribed to mankind under Vedic sanctions. A fresh order of life begins to blossom for all persons from the moment of initiation into upanayana, the sacred thread ceremony. The most cardinal part of upanayana is Brahmaopadesa, which is initiation into uttering of the sacred Gayatri Mantra. Enriched with divine energy, Gayatri mantra serves as a faithful protector for all those who silently utter the mantra to themselves with sincerity. This mantra is a dynamic force and enjoins the brahmachari (bachelor), the grahasthas (house holder) and the vanaprastha (forest dweller), all to repeat this sanctified mantra at least 108 times a day.

The Gayatri mantra, the most mighty of the Vedic mantras, is a prayer to the Sun god to alleviate one from all human sins, physical dissipation and to bestow knowledge, health and longevity. Gayatri is the mantra to be repeatedly recited in the morning before the Sun begins to rise, at noon when the Sun is in the apex and in the evening as the Sun sets, three times a day. Gayatri mantra is a vandana prayer to everlasting light of lights and extols the Almighty Suryanaryana as the soul and spirit of the moving and static objects, with a supplication for proper application and direction one’s buddhi or intellect in all matters.

The Gayatri Mantra forms a part of the Rg Veda Samhita, Mandala III, 62 – 10.

Gayathri devi is known as VEDAMAATHA. Means, the mother of all VEDAS. Did you ever been into Dilema ? like which path to choose? what decision to make ? At times we do things that are wrong and We do knw that they are wrong or not good for us. many more of such negative stuff. Do you know what Gayathri maatha does? If some one establishes relationship with Gayathri maatha, he/she gains super intelect stuff, conscious electric current flows constantly , t influences his mind, intellect, heart and inner self. But the question is How To Establish that kinda Relationship .... Answer is very simple ... Look into her eyes, treat her, care her with love. Dont look at her as idol or a painting. Feel as if she is beside you. Love her . And she loves you tonssss times in return.. :) :)

The sadhana of Gayatri is worship of true knowledge. It has been repeatedly seen those who worship Gayatri will never be lacking in spiritual and worldly happiness.

Each limb of Gayatri has been distilled out from each Veda. It is said in Taittriya Brahamana of Yajur Veda “ The three fold knowledge was revealed: Rig to the heart of Agni; Yajur to the heart of Vayu and Sama to the heart of Aditya. Thus the All Pervading Lord revealed the three fold knowledge, the three worlds were thus illumined. The earth (Bhu Lok, Prithvi) by the Rig, the Antariksha (Bhuva Lok) by the Yajur and Dev Lok (Svah Lok) by the Sama Veda”.

Mantram In Sanskrit:
ॐ भूर्भुवः स्वः तत्सवितुर्वरेण्यम्
भर्गो देवस्य धीमहि धियो यो नः प्रचोदयात्

Meaning:
OM. I adore the Divine Self who illuminates the three worlds --
physical, astral and causal; I offer my prayers to that God who
shines like the Sun. May He enlighten our intellect.

Simple Meaning:
O Divine mother, our hearts are filled with darkness. Please make this darkness distant from us and promote illumination within us

Prathi Padhaardham :
ॐ = same as `OM' i.e. the praNava or `o.nkAra' mantra;
भूर्भुवः = the Earth and the world immediately above the earth;
स्वः = one's own;
तत्सवितुर्वरेण्यं = that all creating great person in the form of sun;
भर्गो = radiance; lustre; brilliance;
देवस्य = god's;
धीमहि = May meditate;
धियो = intellect and mind ;'dhIH':sing.;
यो = He who;
नः = us; to us or ours;
प्रचोदयात् = inspire; kindle; urge; induce;;

More About Gayathri Devi :
The Gayatri mantra is one of the oldest and most powerful of Sanskrit mantras. It is believed that by chanting the Gayatri mantra and firmly establishing it in the mind, if you carry on your life and do the work that is ordained for you, your life will be full of happiness.
The word "Gayatri" itself explains the reason for the existence of this mantra. It has its origin in the Sanskrit phrase Gayantam Triyate iti, and refers to that mantra which rescues the chanter from all adverse situations that may lead to mortality.

Goddess Gayatri is also called "Veda-Mata" or the Mother of the Vedas - Rig, Yajur, Saam and Atharva - because it is the very basis of the Vedas. It is the basis, the reality behind the experienced and the cognized universe.

The Gayatri mantra is composed of a metre consisting of 24 syllables - generally arranged in a triplet of eight syllables each. Therefore, this particular meter (tripadhi) is also known as the Gayatri Meter or "Gayatri Chhanda."
